30 Years in the Gaming Industry

Mykonos Casino General Manager Marks 30 Years in Gaming

This month, Mykonos Casino’s General Manager, Clive Van Groeningen, is celebrating 30 years in the gaming industry.

Van Groeningen got his start as a temporary technician at one of Southern Africa’s oldest casinos, shortly after completing his electrical trade qualification. For the first 17 years of his career he supplied his infectious enthusiasm and expertise to casinos all over the country, but has settled at Mykonos Casino for the last 13.  Today he counts being involved in the opening of two casinos amongst his many achievements over the past three decades.

The industry has obviously evolved significantly since he first joined it, with casinos becoming more high-tech. “When I started, slot machines were mechanical and now they have become these incredible video-type games. With technology taking over, even the tables have evolved significantly.”

He relishes being part of such an exciting and constantly changing industry. “Over the past 30 years, no two days have ever been the same. I don’t enjoy the mundane 9 to 5 stuff and the gaming industry isn’t like that at all.”

Van Groeningen shares: “My father never really believed that I had a proper job! But It is a fantastic career and I would highly recommend it.”
