Mykonos to Make Heritage Day Kwaai

Mykonos to Make Heritage Day Kwaai

To celebrate Heritage Day, marked annually on the 24th of September, Mykonos will be hosting an event that encapsulates the very meaning of South African heritage with a braai competition.

Taking place at Marc’s Beach Bar at the Club Mykonos Resort in Langebaan, this event promises to be nothing short of immense fun with live music, children’s entertainment and celebrity judges.

The competition will kick off at 09h00 and teams will be judged at 13h00 by a panel comprising John Grundlingh, Tiaan Langenegger and Fransa Mouton, who will be making their decisions based on team spirit, presentation and taste.

A SASSI/WWF Braai Ambassador, Grundlingh was the winner of Ultimate Braai Master in 2015 and Laat die Potte Prut in 2016, as well as being a member of the South African team that competed in the World Food Championships in the USA. Celebrity chef Langenegger rose to fame following his win on KykNet’s first ever Kokkedoor competition, but he had already been making moves in the culinary industry, with accolades under his belt, including winning the Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year Award and the Sunday Times Young Chef of the Year Award. Fransa Mouton is an accomplished chef and lecturer who, together with her husband Heinrich, owns White Sands restaurant and the West Coast Chef School in Langebaan. After her studies, she worked in England in various kitchens for 3 years, and is an accredited WACS judge (World Association of Cooks Societies) since 2005 and an active SACA (South African Chefs Association) member.

The trio will be deciding which of the competition’s entrants will walk away with the first place prize of R 4,000 and who will be the second and third runners up, winning prizes of R2,000 and R1,000 respectively. There will also be prizes for the Best Theme and Best Spirit.
